POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Community Education Program Director Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional E JOB SUMMARY: Plans, directs, develops, implements and evaluates adult basic education, health literacy, GED, ESL, Spanish Literacy instructional programs throughout El Paso County. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Develop, implement, manage and evaluate adult basic education, health literacy, GED, ESL, Spanish Literacy instructional programs and community outreach services. Provide program direction and vision to, faculty, staff and student; facilitate resolution of students, faculty or staff conflicts. 2. Develop, recommend and implement short and long range strategic operational and instructional plans and related policies/ procedures. Ensure compliance with sponsoring agency, federal and state standards; implement approved programs; recommend modification or changes as required. 15% 3. Develop budget recommendations; manage approved budgets; monitor equipment/ inventories for multiple programs; develop, manage and implement budget to ensure compliance with sponsoring agencies. 15% 4. Establish and maintain relationships with community and educational institutions, advocacy groups and sponsoring local, state and federal agencies. Participate in professional and community activities at the local, state, and national levels; communicate and coordinate activities with campus-based and district-wide units. 15% 5. Identify and procure resources and funding for existing programs and develop new ones. Travel to other communities to visit agencies and programs and attend conferences in order to establish partnerships, procure resources, identify promising practices and represent program. 10% 6. Develop and manage class schedules and development activities to include assigned on and off campus facilities such as classrooms, labs, and faculty offices. Identify and order textbooks and materials for students and faculty. 10% 7. Provide personnel management direction and guidance to staff including orientation, performance appraisal, professional development, coaching and counseling. Participate in setting performance goals and priorities that contribute to departmental mission. 10% 8. Skills/Abilities: Good organizational, communication, leadership and presentation skills. Ability to analyze a broad range of complex problems with considerable reasoning and judgment in the planning, direction and implementation of work. Strong analytical skills, detailed oriented. Ability to process and analyze information accurately. Ability to maintain consistencies in actions and practices. General management skills required of the position. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and presentation software, e.g. Microsoft Office, Corel Word Perfect, Excel, Banner and Power Point.
