POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Director Director, Small Business Development Center (SBDC) Exempt CATEGORY: Administrative GRADE: C JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for planning, budgeting, administration and development of programs, and management of the Small Business Development Center including staffing, marketing, services, instruction, outreach activities, special projects, and collaborative initiatives with business, government and economic development agencies. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Initiate and implement planning strategies and operational processes for program development, administration, budgeting, staffing, marketing, grant management, database and reporting. 2. Provide strategic leadership and supervision of operations and services, and guidance in the development and evaluation of training programs, student registration, and instruction. 10% 3. Plan and implement marketing strategies for client outreach, training activities, and promotion of programs. 10% 4. Manage database tracking system; develop and manage website and Center business library operations. 10% 5. Plan and coordinate recruitment, in-service training, performance appraisals, coaching, and personal/professional development activities of staff; provide personnel management and guidance to staff. 10% 6. Establish collaborative relations with external organizations including economic development entities, financial institutions, governmental agencies, community organizations, and SBDC network. 10% 7. Develop budget recommendations; and administer approved financial budgets and financial reports. 10% 8. Perform and coordinate self-study reviews, accreditation and financial audits by the College and external funding agencies. 5% 10. Assess facilities, office and instructional equipment needs; maintain and replace technology and related equipment to ensure optimum work efficiency. 5% 11. Perform other duties as assigned. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Vice President - Workforce Economic Dev & Continuing Education. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct supervision of staff assigned to program. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s degree in Business Administration, Management, or related field. EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years of related experience to include exempt managerial experience and/or business ownership experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to interact and speak to large groups; leadership, listening, budget management, and program development skills; an understanding of the business community, the U.S. Small Business Administration programs, SBA Policy Guidelines, Section 21 of the Small Business Act, 15 U.S.C. § 648, and federal regulations, 13 C.F.R. Part 130. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer; LAN server, projection equipment, digital camera, typewriter, copier, Fax Machine, display calculator, and other related equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: Spreadsheet, word-processing, database management, e-mail, website, Internet, presentation software, and business analysis software products.
