POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Financial Aid Specialist - Return to Title IV Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Provide skills and knowledge of the performance of specialized duties in the administration of student financial aid services. Responsible for interpreting complex rules, regulations, procedures and policies to student, parents and outside entities. Responsible for complex decisions requiring initiative and judgment in responding to individual student needs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 35% 1. Perform Return of Title IV calculations to determine amount of student financial aid earned and unearned. Determine the dollar amount of financial aid a student must return to the College and/or to the Department of Education. Adjust specific Title IV programs in the College Student Information system to reflect student debt on the Accounts Receivable module. 2. Prepare correspondence to student and/or external agencies. Review and post Return of Title IV information from federal/state databases to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Stay up-to-date with federal guidelines relevant to performance of return calculations. 20% 3. Validate eligibility of Title IV aid to include verification attendance, verification for late disbursements and post-withdrawal disbursements. 15% 4. Advise students and internal departments of issues that may need to be resolved in order to continue or reinstate financial aid eligibility based on established processes and policies. Serve as a resource to other staff members. 15% 5. Assist with special projects to include determining satisfactory academic progress, workshops and registration. 10% 6. Skills/Abilities: Knowledge of Federal and/or State Student Financial Aid Program’s policies, procedures, rules, laws, and regulations; Good communications skills, good public relations and a team players attitude; Ability to work in a high pressure environment and strong telephone etiquette skills; Experience working with a college or university integrated student system; Experience working directly with students and parents in a college or university setting; Detail oriented with strong organization, accounting and analytical skills; Ability to work in a diverse environment and be sensitive to issues of diversity and inclusion. 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and a variety of equipment associated with a general office environment. 3.
