POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Vice President Instruction Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Administrative G JOB SUMMARY: Serve as a member of the President’s Cabinet with executive responsibility to provide management and evaluation of instruction programs of the college that support the accomplishment of the District’s Mission, Vision, Core Values and the continuation of the District’s accreditation status. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Responsible for ensuring that the college provides qualified faculty and appropriate academic support services that carry out the mission of the college. Promote innovative and creative strategies in the delivery of instructional services. Promoting a student-centered learning environment. 2. Provide leadership in the development of goals and objectives for instructional long range planning. 20% 3. Participate in executive level committees, act as liaison to community entities and workgroups; conduct special studies as assigned by the President of the College. Encourage excellence and innovation in teaching through the use of technology. 20% 4. Supervise a broad range of activities to meet student needs in support of the college mission, e.g. instructional committees. Responsible for overseeing academic ceremonies, such as commencement. 15% 5. Direct the development and execution of the fiscal plan for the areas of responsibility. Plan, develop, and administer annual budget requests and assume responsibility for department heads operating within the approved budgets. Support external funding activities. 10% 6. Represent the division of Instruction at the Board of Trustees meetings and other local, state, national meeting and activities. Responsible for reviewing tenure policies and procedures. 5% 7. EXPERIENCE: Twelve (12) years increasingly responsible administrative experience, including managerial and supervisory experience in an academic setting. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Experience planning, developing, and implementing goals and objectives. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously with attention to detail, deadlines and making decisions. Experience working with a diverse multi-cultural student body and staff. Experience conducting presentation, workshops, or public speaking. Experience with on-line degree programs. Demonstrated success in preparing and implementing grant proposals. Established commitment to the principles of higher education. Comprehensive knowledge of community college administration. Knowledge of Texas and Federal laws and regulations related to education in general and community colleges specifically. Ability to use logic, experience and knowledge to evaluate information and problem situations. Experience evaluating instructional effectiveness against measurable performance indicators. Experience improving teaching and learning with a focus on achieving measurable student success indicators. Ability to remain current with educational trends, issues and challenges for community colleges. Providing leadership at all levels of the College. 2.
