POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Career Services Assistant Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified D JOB SUMMARY: Provide career services resources to students, target groups and community members. Identify, promote, and seek career services opportunities for current students and graduates of El Paso Community College District. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Advise and assist students, faculty, employers, and community members with career services opportunities. Guide individuals on examination and exploration of occupational choices in their career development. 2. Administer and interpret appropriate career assessment instruments including interest inventory and self assessment tests; conduct student follow-up; refer students as appropriate. 20% 3. Develop, facilitate, and/or conduct career services related workshops, trainings and related activities. 20% 4. Monitor and follow-up on career services resources; request, input, index and secure college and university catalogs; assist with research of career services resources and materials. 10% 5. Compose and prepare correspondence and statements of activity; compile data, prepare and submit reports; maintain files and records. 10% 6. Research and identify career services resources within the community and promote career services opportunities to students and faculty. 5% 7. Answer phones, schedule appointments, respond to questions and refer students, as appropriate. 5% 8. EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years experience. CERTIFICATIONS/LICENSURES: None SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong computer skills and ability to deal with students, staff and general public. Position requires the ability to produce new, imaginative, or innovative solutions and strong organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills (oral and written). 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
