KINDER NEWS 4/29/2016 WHAT’S NEW? Reading: We wrapped up Nonfiction with students sharing what they learned about the these type of texts. With the start of Poetry, we are noticing different features specific to this type of writing. Try to find some poetry books to read with your kinder! Phonics: Our friends are spending time reviewing some important skills we have worked on throughout the year… blends & digraphs and Jolly Phonics tricky sounds. We want to make sure we have a strong foundation as we are preparing for 1st grade! Writing: Our Kinders have finished their How To writing. It was great to see them working on the different steps in the writing process to publish their own piece of writing! During the last month of school, room 115 will be selecting their own topics and types of writing - letters, stories, poems, how to, lists... Continue to encourage writing at home, as well! Math: During addition, we have learned about turn-around facts and number combinations to 10. These are great skills to work on to build fluency! Games have been a fun tool in our classroom to work on our adding skills, along with cooperation, turn-taking & being a good sport . Additional: * Words Their Way: “word sorts”, We are working on individual sorts, to reinforce specific skills – short vowels, blends, digraphs or long vowels. The sorts help us recognize spelling patterns that will help us as readers & writers. * Snappy Words: Take some time to practice these words with your child to help build fluency in reading & writing...
