KINDER NEWS

WHAT’S NEW?
Reading: During our Literacy time together, we spent time using connecting words to retell a story,
reading like a storyteller, listening to our partner so we can have a conversation about a book and
noticing punctuation marks with our eyes and ears. Have your kinder practice the motion when they
see a ? ! or a . as you read to them.
Phonics: (C, O, S, V, W, T, A, D, G, U, I, E, L, K, Y, J, P, N, M, H, B)
Please continue to practice all
sounds that have been introduced and return the folder to school on Monday. We have spent quite a
bit of time focusing on building and developing phonemic awareness. This is the ability to hear,
identify, and manipulate individual sounds (phonemes) in spoken words. Our beginning readers can
isolate and say the first sound in words and segment a word into its separate sounds (stretching).
Writing: During our Writing Workshop time, we have discovered and brainstormed our own ideas
for writing and where our ideas come from – something we know a lot about, something we
like/don’t like, a memory, something we have noticed or something from our imagination... I am
loving the books my friends are creating!!
Math: We continued to use ten frames to build our number sense.
The kinders are noticing &
creating patterns everywhere!! Please make sure your child is completing the math homework games
each week and returning the bottom portion on Friday.
