KINDER NEWS 9/11/2015 WHAT’S NEW? Reading: During our Literacy time, we have spent time practicing how to listen to books, share ideas and learn new skills and strategies that will help us be readers. Ask your kinder who their “Milk & Cookies” partner is. We are also learning to be problem solvers in our classroom!! This is a skill that can be practiced at home . Phonics: Jolly Phonics is the program we use to teach 40 sounds in kindergarten. We have practiced the following letters/sounds: C, O, S, V, W, T. Your child will bring the Yellow folder home on Fridays, please practice all sounds that have been introduced and return the folder to school on Monday. Social Studies: It has been so fun getting to know each of our friends through our “Meet Me” projects. The kinders presented their page to the class, as I watched for some key speaking skills (something we will work on all year). Math: Our Kinders have continued to work with numbers – number groups (in a variety of ways), number names and numerals. We are working on the skill to automatically recognize the quantity in a group without the need to count all the items (subitizing). I am hoping to have the weekly math homework games up and running soon – look for the black folder to come home in the next couple of weeks!
