KINDER NEWS
Dates & Reminders:
WHAT’S NEW?
Reading: We spent time comparing fiction texts using a variety of gingerbread stories!
We looked at
the setting, the characters and the plot – what happened at the end? Try this with other fairy tales.
Our kinders are now going to create their own gingerbread stories – I can’t wait to read them!!
Phonics: (all 26 ABC letters, ch, sh, th, wh, or, ar, er (ir, ur), ing, ed, ai, ee, ie, oa, ue)
Please
continue to practice all sounds that have been introduced and return the folder to school on Monday,
especially the tricky sounds! Our readers spent some extra time reinforcing short vowel sounds – we
sang songs, identified words with the sound and sorted & labeled pictures. This week, we were
introduced to long vowels and an important rule – ask your kinder what happens when 2 vowels go
walking? We also realized how confusing words are because not all words follow the rules!
Writing: During our Writing Workshop time, we started Drafting & Revising our selected book.
12/11/2015
We
worked with a partner to help us notice what we can add to our book. Next, will be Editing and
Publishing – this has been such a fun process to watch as our kinders are becoming writers!
Math: We are exploring the teen numbers, trying to understand how each number works – using 10
frames and creating tens and ones to demonstrate our understanding.
Please make sure your child is completing the math homework games each week
and returning the bottom portion to school.

* Growth Mindset… when people believe
that their most basic abilities can be
developed through dedication & hard work,
brains and talent are just the starting
point. We are working on developing &
instilling this mindset in our little friends
through stories, vocabulary, discussions &
activities in the classroom.
