POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Assistant Director Assistant Director, Diversity Programs Exempt CATEGORY: Professional GRADE: E JOB SUMMARY: The Assistant Director of Diversity Programs will assists the Director in supporting the College’s district-wide advancement and commitment to diversity, inclusion and multicultural awareness among employees and students. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 1. Assist in the development of program strategies, including goals and programs, designed to increase and support workplace and campus diversity and inclusion. Act as an advisor to employees on diversity issues to build and maintain a diverse student body and workforce and provide assistance and support to the College’s commitment to diversity. 25% 2. Assist and monitor the strategic planning and operational management of the department. Recommend, and implement departmental budget. Provide personnel management and direction to include orientation, training, performance appraisal, coaching and professional development. 20% 3. Update the department website content based on program activities. Identify, create and implement new and/or update existing web solutions such as, interactive web pages. 20% 4. Assist in coaching managers/supervisors on effective methods to ensure the development and maintenance of a work environment that fosters sensitivity and respect for people of diverse backgrounds, cultures and disabilities. 15% 5. Develop, coordinate, and conduct district-wide educational training programs and online presentations for administrative, professional, classified and faculty staff. Represent and perform job duties on behalf of Director in his/her absence. 10% 6. Engage in projects within the organization to support the coordination and implementation of the diversity strategy throughout the organization. Act as a district-wide resource on diversity issues. 5% 7. EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years directly related experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Time management, detail oriented and the ability to complete multiple projects within very tight deadlines; Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently; Excellent oral and written communication skills; Knowledge of problem-solving techniques for identifying problems and determining the most appropriate course of action for their resolution; Experience with multimedia technologies for the web and knowledge of emerging trends in web design, functionality, usability and accessibility; 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, and web language (SharePoint 2007, and Adobe Suite technologies such as Flash, Acrobat Pro, etc.).
