POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Librarian Exempt CATEGORY: Faculty JOB SUMMARY: In support of the College’s Mission and Objectives, the Librarian is responsible for providing library research instruction and support services in accordance with the philosophy and objectives of the College. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide classroom and individual instruction in library research skills to students and College community. 2. Assist in the selection of library materials for the district through consultation with faculty members, Deans and other College staff. 3. Assist in the development and utilization of library research guides and supplemental instructional aids that will facilitate the use of library resources for students, faculty and other staff as determined by College needs. 4. Maintain records in his/her area of responsibility as deemed necessary for the College library. 5. Post and maintain library duty and office hours as per instructional guidelines. 6. Make provisions for students to evaluate instruction and/or orientation and submit evaluations to designated office. 7. Contribute to the governance of the College through active service on committees and through participation in meetings. 8. Participate in faculty orientation sessions and professional development seminars and activities to enhance professional development; accept the responsibility for professional awareness and growth. 9. Maintain liaison with other faculty to provide information on library services, materials and procedures; maintain liaison with local institutions and organizations. 10. Participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibility such as proposing programs, projects and exhibiting leadership in their implementation; participate on committee in an effective, timely manner; work with other faculty to accomplish the goals of the department, division and College; attend all scheduled library and division activities held during the academic year unless they conflict with a regularly scheduled teaching assignments or activity approved by the Dean. 11. Amended: 2/10/12 Page 1 of 4 REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Campus Dean or other assigned Dean ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Master’s Degree in Library and Information Studies (Master of Library Science Degree (MLS), Master of Arts, Master of Librarianship, Master of Library and Information Studies (MLIS), and Master of Science) from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited college/university. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Demonstrated knowledge of library materials and resources; creativity to develop and implement library programs and services; ability to analyze a broad range of complex problems with considerable reasoning and judgment in the planning, coordination and implementation of work-related issues; good interpersonal and communication skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office environment (copier, phone, fax, etc.) 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
