POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: EXTENDED TITLE; FLSA STATUS: Coordinator Employee Relations Coordinator Exempt CATEGORY: Professional GRADE: E JOB SUMMARY: Perform complex and confidential responsibilities relating to the research, preparation, and responses to Texas Public Information Act requests, litigation, and employee relations matters. Assist employees in the resolution of complaints and grievances, policy and procedure inquiries and provide training on related matters. Develop content for and maintain the departmental website. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 20% 1. Manage the Open Records process to include researching and responding to inquiries for information pursuant to the Texas Public Information Act. 2. Assist in the review, research and response to external charges of discrimination and assist with the preparation of the response in litigation matters against the District related to employment and student issues. 20% 3. Plan and conduct specialized training/workshops on Equal Employment Opportunity/Equal Educational Opportunity (EEO/EEO) and the Effective Management Series. Develop and coordinate on-line training on EEO/EEO and other related topics. 15% 4. Manage the grievance and mediation process. Provide assistance in the facilitation and resolution of complaints/grievances and handle oversight of the grievance appeal process. Respond to policy/procedure questions relating to human resources management and employee conduct/discipline. 15% 5. Maintain statistical data; respond to reports and surveys; provide complex and confidential support in researching and preparing reports. 10% 6. Responsible for maintenance of the Employee Handbook, including dissemination on the webpage; develop, disseminate, and update other employee handbooks; manage Employee Relations webpage; including online training courses. Revise and/or develop policies and procedures based on legislation and current court decisions relating to employee relation matters. 10% 7. May provide work direction and training to support staff assigned to office. 5% 8. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources, Management or related field. EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years related experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Strong verbal and written communication skills. Ability to effectively deliver public presentations, training and instructions. Ability to research and evaluate information; proficient computer skills. Good judgment skills sufficient to handle and resolve tasks with little supervision. Ability to interact effectively with employees at all levels, students, and visitors. Ability to function as a neutral agent to facilitate issue resolution; demonstrate and maintain an extremely high regard for confidential and sensitive information. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks. Ability to work under limited time constraints. 2. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, research, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
