JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing instruction in accordance with the philosophy and
objectives of the College.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assist students with academic advising, goal setting, career exploration, program selection and
vocational choices.
2.
Assist in implementing the new student orientation.
3.
Teach classes and seminars in the area of human development and academic success.
4.
Participate in implementing a counseling program to assist students in resolving institutional
conflicts such as class attendance, course withdrawal, academic progress, or other student-related
matters.
5.
Prepare degree plans, transfer credit evaluations, student petitions, and graduation applications.
6.
Prepare routine correspondence and maintain student records required by the College.
7.
Act as a liaison with faculty, departments, and local agencies to provide information on
programs, services and registration.
8.
Assist in training program staff.
9.
Participate in all areas of divisional and departmental responsibility, such as proposing program
projects and exhibiting leadership in their implementation; participate on committees in an
effective and timely manner and work with faculty to accomplish the goals of the department,
discipline, and the College.
10. Assist with such activities as collection and interpretation of research as requested or required.
11. Contribute to the governance of the College through active service by participating in meetings
and committees.
12. Participate in faculty orientation sessions and professional development seminar activities.
Responsible for professional development, awareness, and growth.
13. Acknowledge and support the College’s Mission and Objectives.
14. Other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Master’s degree with eighteen (18) graduate semester hours in Counseling or
Guidance.
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1.
Skills/Abilities:
 Ability to provide academic, career and personal counseling services to adult
students.
 Experience working with special populations, displaced workers, disables students,
international students, and students whose second language is English.
 Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with
students, faculty, and community members.
 Experience working with federal, state and college policies related to higher
education.
 Working knowledge of career inventory instruments.
 Experience as a professional counselor.
 Experience/ability to perform in a multi-cultural community college setting.
 Demonstrated related skills and experience.

Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with a general office
environment (copier, phone, fax, etc.)
3.
Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation
software.
