POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Facilities Planner Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional Support D JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for providing professional services on assigned projects concerning design, construction, development, or installation of building and facilities. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Supervise construction, equipment installation, renovation and redesigning projects. Ensure that timing, costs and contract requirements are adhered to for assigned projects. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 2. Work with management to review design changes, equipment specifications/substitutions, purchasing and accounting procedures. 15% 3. Provide basic architectural layout, design, and code compliance checks for small remodeling projects. 15% 4. Compute square footage available for projects to determine whether minimum space restrictions can be met. Develop feasibility studies for review, as appropriate. 10% 5. Update and maintain the facility’s database (backlog) for records of repairs by campus. Generate progress reports when requested. 10% 6. Compile, update and maintain the facility’s space directory and generate reports upon request. 10% 7. Manage and coordinate distribution of construction drawings, as requested, for new construction or facilities renovation projects. Maintain and ensure availability of blueprints and construction drawings of all District facilities. 5% 8. Coordinate the manufacture and installation of all signage. 5% 9. EXPERIENCE: Five (5) Years experience in the field. LICENSE/CERTIFICATION: Must have a valid Texas driver’s license and insurable by the district’s auto liability insurance carrier. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Provides work direction to assigned staff. TECHNICAL SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: • Must have strong planning, organization and problem solving skills. • Must have a working knowledge of building codes. • Must have a basic knowledge of environmental and safety regulations. • Must have advanced knowledge using Computer Assisted Design (CAD) software. • Ability to create blueprints and specifications related to facilities, maintenance and construction. • Basic ability to read, interpret blueprints, design, and construction documents. • Good computer skills. • Good interpersonal skills to interface with general public, faculty and staff. • Effective communication skills, both oral and written. 2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and related peripherals, fax machine, specialized printers and plotters, and miscellaneous equipment associated with facilities and construction. 3. Software Used: A variety of computer aided drafting, graphic, spreadsheet, wordprocessing, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
