Office of Financial Management Washington State Major Project Status Report December 2008 Agency Number: 699 Agency: State Board for Community & Technical Colleges Project Number: 04-2-695 Project Title: South Puget Sound Community College Science Complex Bill Reference: Chapter 8, Section 786, Laws of 2001, 2nd Special Session Project Description: This project includes the construction of a Natural Science Building with 55,300 gross square feet. This project will raise the quality of service from 88 SF/FTE to the system average of 110 SF/FTE. The new facility will include 10 adequately sized science labs and 13 lecture classrooms to serve the science labs and advanced lower division mathematics. With this additional space, the college can expand its curriculum to offer key prerequisite science courses in the Transfer and Technical Degree programs that are not available now and will be better able to support the nursing curriculum. The new facility will provide a centralized core for the Natural Sciences thereby improving the delivery of service and the burden on staff transporting lab materials back and forth. The proposed project will address the design issues in the existing Building 32 by providing adequate storage space, flexible classroom, lab support space, and sufficient office space. Approximately 5,800 sf in Building 32 will be remodeled. Additionally, the college is building this facility under the LEED Silver criteria.
