Scoop on Science
Students prepared
cheek cell slides with
compound
microscopes this
week. Students have really
enjoyed the opportunity to
use the equipment and
have become quite adept at
it! Students are currently
working in class on a study
guide for this portion of the
unit. This week, we also
began looking at how living
things are classified.

SPECIALS NEXT WEEK:
Music is our special next
week.
The Hype on History
Students’ graded
Westward
Expansion Test will
be returned to them
Monday. We are now
looking at the causes of the
American Civil War starting
with the issue of slavery.
We have many exciting
activities planned for this
unit.
Memos on Math
Graded tests for Ch. 5 are
included in this Friday
folder. Students began
studying Ch. 6, Making
Graphs, this week. Our
test for this chapter is Friday.
These graphing skills will help
your child when preparing the
tables and graphs for their
Science Fair project. We have
also used the netbooks to
practice making graphs.
Lots About Language Arts
Language: Students have
been learning and practicing
persuasive writing skills these
last two weeks and have
applied this to a historical
piece (re: the war with Mexico)
and to a personal piece.
Next, students will use their
language skills to listen and
respond to Frederick
Douglass’s autobiography
(abridged), Escape From
Slavery.
Reading: We will finish Tom
Sawyer next week. Students
have enjoyed the story lines in
the novel as they prepare for
their musical performance in
April.
Next week’s saying…..
“Make a mountain out of a
molehill”
