Hopefully, they used that time at home wisely and will avoid a painful weekend….. Thurs., Mar. 1 – Ch. 26 Math Test (topic: Area) Fri., Mar. 2 – Typed Science Fair Project Summary due Fri., Mar. 2 – Civil War Encampment *1 parent volunteer needed (12:40-2:50) Denver Art Museum Field Trip Thank you to the parents who have offered to chaperone this valuable field trip on March 8. Science Fair 2/28 – Display due 2/28-3/2 Project/display presentations 3/2 – Summary due (typed) (written in class; typed at home) 3/5-7 TCKS Science Fair 3/6 – Viewing and Awards The Hype on History We started the Civil War by firing on Fort Sumter this week. We also learned about the strengths of the North and of the South as the two sides headed into war. We also learned about the struggle many faced in deciding on which side to fight. We discussed the Anaconda Plan, and I was able to share my ancestor’s letter written September, 1861, as he discussed the North’s strategy and his own experiences so far. Memos on Math The graded quiz for Chapter 25, Perimeter, is included in this Friday folder. We began Ch. 26, Area, Monday and will test this chapter next Thursday. We’ll then begin Measurement. This is a very hands-on chapter as we navigate between customary and metric units of measurement. Night April – PSD Science Fair Scoop on Science We have begun our unit on Plants and will enjoy the microscopes and microslide viewers with this unit as well. Lots About Language Arts Language: Students were given class time to write the summary for their Science Fair Project. This will be typed at home (starting Tuesday) following the format given on their instruction sheet. It is due Friday, March 2nd. Feel free to proofread for your child. Students will need to print 2 COPIES. Reading: We are reading Little Women and having many valuable conversations on character. Students are learning rich vocabulary and practicing many reading skills and strategies. Spelling: List 22, homophones, next week.
