Mrs. Wick's 5th Grade Friday Notes April 20, 2012 IMPORTANT!! lot of fun information, videos, songs, and games Thank you to all the parents who attended the Parent Meeting this week. A folder wassent home with 5th grade students today with information on Eco and the Human Growth & Development unit. PLEASE READ ALL THIS INFORMATION CAREFULLY and return the necessary forms, permission slips, and Eco fee. The due date for all Eco information/medications/fee is May 14th. Important Dates: Fri., 4/27 – Kinard Visit (permission slip included in Friday folder) YOUR CHILD’S PICTURE FOR PROMOTION SLIDE SHOW Please remember to gather a toddler picture and a kindergarten picture of your child for the Promotion slide show. This can be a digital copy (sent via email, disc, or thumb drive). If you have a hard copy toddler picture and kindergarten picture, you may send them in (labeled) with your child. We will continue to explore concepts in geometry next week with plane and solid figures (Ch. 21). Students will also take the Connected Readiness Test next week. It is one tool the middle schools use to place students in the math class best suited to the student. Art next week! Scoop on Science We started our unit on animal reproduction this week. Students have learned about reproduction of fish and amphibians this week. We will study reproduction of all 5 vertebrate classes plus insects. Each of these lessons has a small quizlet upon completion of the lesson so students learn to ‘study as you go’. The test for this unit is May 3. The Hype on History Our studies of Westward Expansion Post Civil War will conclude next week. There is no test on this unit, but instead a Clicker review Tuesday. This unit has had a Lots About Language Arts Reading: Our Civil War novel studies will conclude next Friday and is our last novel study of the school year. Students should be reading a historical fiction for their 4th quarter book report and project. Please remember to save a shoe box (or other small box) for their diorama. Language: After careful research, note taking, and organization of information, students will finish typing their animal reports next week. Students may prepare a PowerPoint or Prezi on their animal at home for extra credit. Students may NOT take their research folders home. They may take a hard copy of their report home to help in preparing the PowerPoint or Prezi. Mrs. Wick's 5th Grade Friday Notes April 20, 2012 Presentations may not exceed 8 slides.
