Course Description:
Sports, Entertainment, & Recreation (SER) is a course offered in the Marketing Education Program. It
will take the students on a step-by-step journey through the world of marketing. Students will learn
how the key functions of marketing are applied to sports and entertainment. This class will also help
the student see and understand the connection between the entertainment industry and marketing.
Real life marketing applications, technology and case studies will be incorporated into the classroom
curriculum.
Objectives:
The Marketing Education Program has two specific objectives:
1. To prepare students for full-time employment and / or continuing education in the
marketing field.
2. To offer training to adults employed or entering the marketing field.

Throughout the year there will be opportunities for extra credit. If your work is turned in after the due
date it is considered late and is automatically deducted 15 points. See below for more expectations
and requirements.

Class Expectations:






ALL class assignments, homework, tests, quizzes, and projects must be completely on time,
neatly organized.
Students are responsible for making up missed work. Quizzes and tests are to be completed
when you return to school. ALL assignments must be completed within a week or your
absence.
Bring required materials to class everyday.
Assignments MUST have the student’s name, date and period on top right side of the paper.
Turn in assignments when due. If your work is turned in after the due date it is considered late
and is automatically deducted 15 points.
Students are expected to be polite, respectful, responsible, cooperative, and attentive at ALL
times.
Class Rules:






Follow directions the first time they are given.
Respect yourself and others.
Raise your hand to be recognized before speaking.
Do not use the computers without asking.
No eating or drinking in the classroom.
No electronic devices in the classroom (MP3’s, cell phones, Ipods, etc.).
General Consequences:
1st infraction = Verbal Warning
2nd infraction = Letter or Telephone call to parent / guardian
3rd infraction = Conference with parent or guardian
4th infraction = Sent to Office

DECA:
DECA is a youth organization for High School students enrolled in Marketing Education classes. DECA
is a vital part of the ACHS Marketing Program. The organization provides students with an
opportunity to participate in programs geared towards Leadership, Development, Vocational
Understanding, Social Intelligence and Civic Consciousness.
A $15.00 fee is required.
