LIFE Simulation! DUE FEBRUARY 10 / 11 /50 At the end of this unit you will hand in a binder of your life. On the final day we will do a gallery walk and see the lives you built! “Life pulled out of a Hat” - Your “marriage partner” - Your job / income - One wild card. Could be good or bad for you. May not be altered. Your Life Binder must have the following sections, and subdivisions (if applicable) Please add drawings or printed pictures for anything you have bought. Everything must be typed. Each section must have a written reflection justifying your choice. 1) Career a. Income after tax deductions b. Estimated overtime / general work hours. c. Do you need a second job? 2) Home (assumed you live in the GVRD/Fraser Valley) a. Printed advertisement for the apartment/home you “got” b. Rent / Mortgage (+ property taxes and/or strata fees?) c. Cost of running a home i. Bc hydro ii. Internet / Phone / TV iii. Home Insurance / Contents Insurance iv. Unexpected expenditure? 3) Transportation a. Car or public transportation? i. If car (gas, maintenance, tires, insurance, bcaa) 1. You must justify which form of transportation you chose. If you are buying a car: a. Make, Model, price (and a picture of the car and advertisement) b. Insurance c. Tires (you must buy 4 winter or summer tires) d. Weekly gas cost e. Maintenance (oil changes, and repair of brakes) f. Car Insurance and BCAA 4) Banking a. The bank you chose, type of accounts, interest rates, fees b. Investments (savings account, mutual funds, GIC?) You need a savings plan. c. Line of Credit – if applicable. 5) Everyday Budget a. Medical i. Dental = 1 cleaning per year for every family member ii. MSP payment per person b. Food i. Budget per week for food in detail. You will be graded on HEALTHINESS too. (This will be part field research) ii. Do you have a dietary requirement? c. Clothing (each family member must purchase 2 full outfits + shoes. This will be part field research) d. Personal Care (hair, nails, facial, massage?) e. Gifts (everyone in your immediate family must get a Christmas/holiday and birthday present) f. Entertainment (you may do whatever you want but must purchase all necessary equipment) g. Furniture (you must purchase a couch, bed, computer, and chest of drawers) 6) Vacation (You must take one vacation) a. Transportation, hotel, food, activities, spending money. How this will work… Each class we will investigate one of the topics necessary for your binder. You will use the information to help you form your “life binder”. In certain classes the small assignments will be handed in for marks. If you have a laptop please bring it to class each day. DUE FEB 10/11 Evaluation of Life Binder /50 There are 25 possible sub-divisions in this binder. Each section is worth 2 marks. You will be graded on how possible your overall budget is, how detailed it is, and how creative you were at saving money. There are bonus marks for the aesthetic of your binder You may not add in illegal money or random winfalls. You may not change your job, salary, or “wildcards” in any way. NO, you may not abandon your children or pets to save money.
