6th Grade Language Arts/ Social Studies
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome to 6th grade Language Arts & Social Studies! It is my hope that your child has a
rewarding and successful year. My goal will be to help your child meet the 6th grade Common
Core English Language Arts and Social Studies Standards. Each class will be given a separate
grade. I will expect that your child comes ready to learn and prepared with his/her materials to
meet our standards. Remind your child that in order for him/her to be successful in this class, or
in any class, he/she will have to work and study hard the entire school year!
Grading & Expectations
1. Grades are based on total points possible and will be available online via Jupiter Grades.
Please make sure to check your child’s progress.
2. Each student is responsible for bringing his/her supplies to school every day!
3. All work should be kept in a Binder. They may have one binder for all of their classes;
however, there should be a tab specifically designated for Language Arts and one for Social
Studies. They will keep important handouts and classwork in their binder. Students are
responsible for keeping their binders up to date and in order. Binders will be checked every 2
weeks for organization.
4. Students must also have a Binder Reminder so they can keep themselves organized! There
will be a Binder Reminder check every 2 weeks as well.
5. The majority of our classwork for Language Arts will be completed in a spiral bound
Notebook and will be collected every Friday.
6. For Language Arts Homework students will need to read at home for 30 minutes each day
and respond to two journal entry prompts in their Notebook each week based on their reading.
Students will be responsible for learning new vocabulary and grammar each week and will need
to prepare for our weekly quizzes by studying their notes and classwork each night. In Social
Studies, homework will be assigned periodically. However, students should be studying their
notes to prepare for unit quizzes and tests.
7. Grades are computer generated and assigned according to the following scale:
A 90-100%
