English Language Arts
This week, fourth grade continued with
Unit 1 Lesson 1 skills, strategies, and stories.
Students practiced close reading with the
selections Because of Winn-Dixie and
Because of Book Ends. We jumped into
writing by composing a descriptive
paragraph about a special place. Students
were engaged in word study lessons which
focused on spelling patterns. This way of
building spelling patterns is different from
years past since it does not involve rote
memorization of spelling words. We are
looking forward to having students log onto

Math
By: Mrs. Patel
This week in math we reviewed lessons 1.11.4. The students took their first math quiz and
should have brought it home on Thursday to be
signed and brought back to school by
Friday. We are skipping lesson 1.5 and moving
into lesson 1.6, which focuses on adding whole
numbers and using estimation to check the
accuracy of the answers. The students should
expect their first chapter test on Friday,
October 2nd.
Science & S.S.
By: Mrs. Lahneman
In Science we continued to observe and
measure our plants, as well as look at the two
different types of leaves that had grown on the
plants. We also started learning how to read a
content area text, using structure to help identify
important information or comprehend what is
being read.
In Social Studies, we discussed some
unique things about Pennsylvania, some famous
people of Pennsylvania, the location of
Pennsylvania in the world. (Hemisphere,
Continent, and what state)
