Students independently read complex 4th grade level text, answered multiple choice questions in which they had to apply skills and strategies from Unit 1, and wrote a Text Dependent Analysis response (TDA). The TDA response is new to 4th grade students and it is very challenging (a lot of higher level thinking involved), but we will continue to work on it throughout the school year. On Monday, students will complete the On Demand Writing Prompt portion of the assessment. The students worked very hard on completing the chapter 2 assessment. We have started chapter 3 which focuses on multi-digit multiplication. Right now the students are practicing multiplying a two-digit number by a multiple of ten (23 x 40 or 18 x 60). The students should continue to practice their multiplication facts at home for a few minutes each night. Each student also has access to www.xtramath.org. This website provides great practice for building the students’ automaticity with math fact recall. Health/S.S By: Mrs. Lahneman HEALTH was our subject topic this week! Building healthy relationships with friends and family are skills we worked on through class discussion and group activities. The topic areas included: Resolving Conflicts through communication, and understanding that there are various ways to communicate care, consideration, and acceptance of self and others. We also had fun learning about verbal and non-verbal communication focusing on body language, facial expressions, and gestures. The students had a lot of fun with the activity on Constructive Criticism vs. Non-Constructive Criticism where they had to come up with dialogue to answer different scenarios. We also began our journey into the understanding of the Natural Regions of Pennsylvania, located in Chapter 2 in the Social Studies text.
