POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Managing Director, Physical Plant Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional G JOB SUMMARY: Oversee the day-to-day operational issues of the Physical Plant Department. Work with the other Physical Plant managers or any other internal/external agencies to address and resolve any issues that may arise for the college. Assist with various administrative and management functions as required. Operate as primary operational liaison between the college community and the Physical Plant Department in the Director’s absence. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Acting as the Director’s representative, will be responsible for the management of the day-to day administrative and operational business associated with the Department. 2. Assist the Director with the development and maintenance of various capital, construction and operational budgets and initiate the preparation of annual reports and projections. 20% 3. Required to plan, estimate, negotiate, execute, and manage various projects through outside contractors as well as department staff personnel. Direct the activities of the Construction Manager, Facility Planner and Campus Technicians. 20% 4. Develop quality, cost effective, timely and efficient completion of renovation maintenance and construction projects/program efforts. 15% 5. Provide personnel management, direction and guidance to staff and faculty including performance appraisal, coaching, personal and professional development. 10% 6. Develop, plan and prepare specifications for various projects; estimate project costs; and request materials and equipment as needed. 5% 7. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Effective: 6/1/11 Page 1 of 4 EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Management, Engineering, Construction or related field. EXPERIENCE: Four (4) years related experience. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with diverse constituencies. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Adaptability and resourcefulness are essential. Analytical and reasoning skills necessary for evaluation processes, judgment, and independent action are critical. Computer literacy, demonstrate proficiency in the mechanical, structural and construction trades. Working knowledge of architectural plans and specifications are essential. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
