POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Facilities Manager Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Professional G JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the management of Physical Plant maintenance personnel; ensure the optimal functioning of Physical Plant maintenance and system operations. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Manage and supervise the campus technicians, HVAC technicians, and grounds personnel. Plan, assign, and supervise the work in relation to all infrastructure and associated building equipment including landscaping. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 40% 2. Manage effective preventive maintenance and energy conservation programs for all district HVAC equipment/systems and other building systems. Develop procedures and ensure proper written records are maintained that document maintenance of repair activities for all systems. 15% 3. Prepare requisitions for maintenance supplies and services in support of preventative maintenance for the buildings. Provide budget recommendations to the Director of the Physical Plant. 10% 4. Direct engineering consultants in the development of plans and specifications. 10% 5. Respond to day, evening and weekend campus/facilities emergencies, in consultation with Director, as appropriate. 10% 6. Provide personnel management and direction of assigned personnel, including orientation, training, performance appraisal, coaching and professional development. 10% 5. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or a related field. EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) related experience; with at least five years in facility engineering. Skills/Abilities: • Ability to direct engineering consultants in the development of plans and specifications. • Working knowledge of service and maintenance trades, as well as related fields. • Skill to effectively plan work activities, schedules, priorities, and utilization of resources of a multi-site operation. • Skill to effectively perform supervisory and managerial responsibilities. • Knowledge of problem-solving techniques for identifying problems and determining the most appropriate course of action for their resolution. • Ability to work effectively under pressure and to act quickly and appropriately in emergency situations. • Effective communication skills (both oral and written). 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer and other equipment associated with area of expertise and office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of spreadsheet, word-processing, database, e-mail, and presentation software.
