POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Assistant Director, New Student Orientation & Transition Programs Exempt CATEGORY: Professional GRADE: E JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for the development and implementation of district-wide orientation programs for new students, transfer students, parents and other specialized orientation initiatives. Assist the Director in planning, development, scheduling, marketing and implementation of day-to-day operations within the New Student Orientation and other transitional programs. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 25% 1. Develop and implement a leadership focused training program for the Student Orientation leaders. Manage the Student Orientation leaders and make sure complying with New Student Orientation (NSO) requirements and orientations are being scheduled and done on a regular basis. 2. Provide personnel management activities of assigned staff; including recommendation for employment, supervision, orientation, performance evaluation and guidance and support concerning professional development; mentor and train staff on policy and procedures. 20% 3. Develop and ensure Student Orientation leaders are focusing on comprehensive orientation programs for first year transfer and nontraditional students; work collaboratively with areas in instruction, student services and finance. Create and oversee the online orientation program. 15% 4. Assist Director in developing, monitoring and managing the NSO budget to accomplish short and long term strategic planning goals. Manage event planning, marketing and logistics. Interpret, evaluate, develop and implement policies and procedures. 15% 5. Develop and implement program assessment and evaluation plans for orientation programs and the orientation leader programs. Maintain records and statistics; retrieve and compile statistical data and prepare and submit reports and/or communications. 10% 6. Participate in specialized group or committee meetings in key areas such as Start Right, Dual Credit/Early College High School and similar groups as needed. 5% 7. Keep abreast of trends in student development, enrollment management, campus environments, and student learning theories and their application in practice. 5% 8.
