POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Financial Aid Clerk I Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified B JOB SUMMARY: Provides routine general clerical support and input services. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Receive and review financial aid applications; ascertains eligibility status, computes financial aid data and inputs data into computer system; processes and reviews student aid reports; prepares correspondence, degree plans, etc. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 40% 2. Review financial aid/eligibility documentation; ensures proper completion; sets up and maintains files. 30% 3. Provide financial aid applications and related information to students via phone/person; refers or answers questions related to filing process; assists students with completion of application, as needed; may assist with workshop presentations. 25% 4. Assist with the annual registration process. 5% REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Coordinator, Customer Service ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: One (1) year of college and/or equivalent EXPERIENCE: One (1) year SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Good organizational and communication skills. 2. Equipment Used: Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: A variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Effective: 9/1/01 Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion. INTERPERSONAL SKILLS: Alternative or combined skills in understanding, directing, and/or influencing people are important in achieving job objectives, causing action, understanding others, or changing behavior; and, skills of persuasiveness or assertiveness, as well as sensitivity to the point of view of others. WORKING CONDITIONS: Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with many and frequent distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some disagreeable elements.
