POSITION DESCRIPTION TITLE: FLSA STATUS: Academic Tutor Non-Exempt CATEGORY: GRADE: Classified B JOB SUMMARY: Position is responsible for assisting in the daily operation of the tutoring center in providing tutorial instruction for students and in the understanding and preparation of course assignments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 1. Provide educational assistance in specific discipline (math, English, science, etc.) to student(s) which include improving understanding and comprehension of subject; assist in preparation of course assignments. YEARLY PERCENT OF TIME 70% 2. Assist in tracking student’s performance. 10% 3. Provide feedback to instructors where applicable. 10% 4. May assist in development of lesson plans or course projects. 10% ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION: A minimum of 30 college credit hours with an overall 3.0 GPA or in the courses in the specified field of tutoring. SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES: 1. Skills/Abilities: Effective verbal and written communication; good interpersonal and organizational skills. 2. Equipment Used: Position may use a Personal Computer, fax, telephone, copier, and other equipment associated with an office environment. 3. Software Used: Position may use a variety of word-processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and presentation software. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
