JOB SUMMARY: Ensure District’s information system security is in compliance with federal and
state law, regulations, and standard industry practice, policies, and procedures.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Cultivate, review, and interpret new sources of information on current
and emerging laws, rules, regulations, and industry practice relation to
information technology security.
Liaison with state and federal
authorities requiring information and reports on security incidents to
include campus police, Federal Bureau of Investigation, and other law
enforcement agencies.

2. Review and understand District’s information technology infrastructure.
Work with information technology infrastructure owners and under the
authority of the Chief Technology Officer, implements and maintains
the information technology security program. Research applicable
hardware and software.

3. Design, implement, and monitor cost-effective security programs for
the overall security and integrity of the District’s electronic information,
information systems, and information networks. Establish a reporting
process to ensure that management is kept appraised of the
effectiveness of information technology security and problem
resolution.

4. Design, implement, and provide training policies, standards,
guidelines, and security monitoring processes in relation to general
control, security programs, privacy regulations, and development and
operation of the District’s technology infrastructure.

5. Prepare a District-wide information technology security plan to ensure
compliance with federal and State Department of Information
Resources (DIR) regulations. Provide guidance and direction for the
physical and logical protection of information technology resources to
other financial units in developing and promoting a control-conscious
information technology environment throughout the District.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Vice President for Information Technology/Chief Technology
Officer.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor’s Degree within area of assigned responsibility.
EXPERIENCE: Seven (7) years
SPECIAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
1. Skills/Abilities:
Strong interpersonal and organizational skills; communicate
effectively both oral and written; supervisory skills; ability to manage multiple projects
simultaneously; demonstrated knowledge of system administration, performance
monitoring, telecommunications and networking administration. Knowledge of
Oracle, UNIX and/or other comparable operating systems. Knowledge of HP3000,
DEC or comparable hardware configurations.
2. Equipment Used: Personal computer and a variety of equipment associated with a
general office environment.
3. Software Used: A variety of word processing, spreadsheet, database, e-mail, and
presentation software in addition to
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Duties require little physical effort in work with light (up to 10lbs), easy to handle
materials. Duties performed causes light fatigue of eyes, fingers, or other faculties due to
long periods of standing, sitting, and/or repetitive motion.
INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Alternative or combined skills in understanding, negotiating, selecting, developing, and
motivating people are important to the highest degree due to constant interaction with
other people, at any level within the organization or the community, position’s
accountability for the development, motivation, assessment, and reward of employees,
and to deal with irrational situations where the outcome is unpredictable.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
Job is performed in general office or comparable working area with occasional
distractions such as noise, interruptions, or congested work areas with exposure to some
disagreeable elements.
