Torrence Creek
Stream and floodplain restoration
Torrence Creek has a whole new look!
Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services now has completed
work on more than three miles of the main stem of Torrence
Creek and on Torrence Creek Tributary #2. The paths of these two
streams have been repaired and restored. Native plants and trees
have been added along the banks and gently-sloping floodplain.
The stream work was near I-77 and Gilead Road in Huntersville.
The goal of stream restoration is cleaner water and improved
natural habitat. These projects will not prevent the creeks from
flooding during heavy rain.
Funding comes from Storm Water Services fees, federal
stimulus money and a grant from the North Carolina
Clean Water Management Trust Fund.
