North Mecklenburg Park Water quality improvements Newly restored, Torrence Tributary #1 inside North Meck Park is looking great! The grass on the banks is becoming thick and green. Badly eroded banks have been restored, keeping 56 tons of sediment out of the creek each year. Trib #1’s water is now cleaner and healthier for aquatic life. Around the park, specially engineered grassy areas and rain gardens temporarily hold storm water runoff, slowing the erosiove flow. These storm water management techniques keep six tons of sediment out of the creek each year. Torrence Trib #1 before... and after stream restoration. Funding for this water quality enhancement project came from Huntersville Storm Water fees and the North Carolina Department of Environment and Natural Resources. This bioretention cell and rain garden help to improve water quality. More at: stormwater.charmeck.org Check out Storm Water Projects, then McDowell Watershed. Your Storm Water fees at work!
