Upper Torrence Creek Stream restoration at The Park First phase of stream restoration is complete The stream running through The Park business complex in Huntersville has a whole new look. This summer, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Storm Water Services completed restoration on nearly one mile of Upper Torrence Creek from Reese Boulevard to McCoy Road. Stream restoration does not reduce flooding. The project will improve water quality. The stream channel was reshaped to a more natural, curving path. That slows the water’s erosive flow. Erosion damage along the stream was repaired. And the stream bed was reconnected to the floodplain, giving nature a place to store excess water during heavy rain. This fall, Storm Water Services added more plants to the newly restored banks. And additional stream work is tentatively planned upstream from the newly-completed section. The two-year process of designing and restoring this portion of Upper Torrence Creek was funded by Storm Water Services and the NC Clean Water Management Trust Fund. The Park and the Town of Huntersville are partners in this effort to improve water quality in local streams. More at: stormwater.charmeck.org Check out Storm Water Projects, then McDowell Watershed.
