Dejon Weldon will start on Sept. 2. Funding from the Community Foundation will pay for outreach by student ambassadors (former ACE students) for ACE/LC. EOPS/FTTW are now under C&ESS; Foster Youth, Veterans, and Student Health Services are now under the Dean of Student Services; the Student Equity Plan is under the VPSS. Michelle will notify everyone directly involved with the suspended student; discussion about flagging in SARS, Colleague, Polyhedral. A notification of expelled students will be available statewide. The last paragraph of the AP was revised and approved. Meeting Summary or Take Away: 1. Borrow a Book new criteria: open to any student enrolled in 12 units or more with valid Student Activity Card and 2. no PERC holds. New program uses rental books from the bookstore. Student Senate funded $30,000 for 2014-15. Updates: • Jay: Hoping for a reprieve from last year’s unprecedented changes (ed plans, reg priorities, moving, etc.) Staffing issues coming up with anticipated retirements. • Veronica: She and Cecilia are running the EOPS program with the help of work/study students – hoping to hire two adjuncts for this year and a permanent counselor next year. CARE applications are down – send single parents to Veronica. • Tootie: This Friday is the cutoff for the first FA disbursement – after that the next payment will be the third week of school; a record number of students are being paid in the first disbursement. Numeric major glitch in system is affecting 444 students who have been contacted to change (update) to an alpha major in order to receive Pell. • Lyn: An average of 2000 students sign up on the job board per year – we are at about half that now and at this point about half of the jobs are filled. • Beth: Interviewing for an adjunct counselor – hopes to have a full-time counselor next year. Hired a parttime LD specialist for testing in addition to two full-time staff. Developing new classes (adaptive dance and an ADHD class) to take to curriculum. 1 • • • • • • • • • Katie: Marcela Meyer has been hired in Student Health Services as a nurse practitioner. New PEER educators are being trained. Mental Health First Aid training offered during Flex Week. Ed: A&R will be open until 6:00 PM the first week. Will present with Rock to new faculty regarding census dates. Tama: A&R and FA are sharing windows and offices will have the same open hours. Beginning July 2015, students will lose BOG if academic standing is not up to standard. Financial aid will not be awarded for courses that are not in a student’s program or major. Anya: Interviews took place for Assessment’s 50% position. Referring some students to ASC prior to reassessing. Barbara: Prerequisite challenges beginning. Art prereqs are now enforced – word should get out on articulation page. Margery: Matric funding for properly documenting an office visit in SARS. Staffing is down; please be patient if staff is not available. Karen: Jenna Becker has promoted to fill Alicia’s position as program specialist; Tyrone is filling the office specialist position as a temp. Karen will report on the WFSN grant at the next meeting. Rachel: The new A&R door has been installed. Olga is the contact for Borrow a Book in Watsonville. The SRC is using the leftover books for tutoring or loaning to students since these were not returned to the bookstore. Michelle: ASCC Retreat is this coming weekend. Their activity is starting to ramp up with welcome week planning. Hopefully they will return from the retreat with some concrete goals. Food Pantry will be up and running for Day 1 of fall semester. Feedback was provided that can food items should be avoided since students don't necessarily have a can opener. Items need to be purchased that have quick and easy lids or openings. 2
