Laura Verduzco-Thurman, Sesario’s new Administrative Assistant was introduced.
1. BP/AP Approvals & Review Schedule
The following policies were approved by SSC:
BP 3900: Speech: Time, Place, and Manner
AP 3900: Speech: Time, Place, and Manner
BP 5130: Financial Aid
AP 5130: Financial Aid
BP 5800: Prevention of Identity Theft in Student Financial Transactions
AP 5800: Prevention of Identity Theft in Student Financial Transactions
These BPs will go to the April Board for a first reading.
For the accreditation timeline, all Student Services Board Policies must
be approved by the Governing Board no later than the August
meeting. This means they must go to the Board no later than June for
a first reading. (There is usually no July Board meeting.) Sandi handed
out the table of contents that will be posted to the web as a checklist
for the BPs and APs. All policies must be completed and BPs adopted
by August.
2. Program Plans (for those due this semester) and Annual
Program updates (for the rest)
Dennis firmly reminded everyone that new program plans and the
spring updates are due by June.
3. Spring Break
All VPs will be out this week. The president will be here MondayThursday. Dennis asked for everyone to post signs now if their offices
will be closed or change hours for the break.
4. Strategic Plan
Dennis went over Goal A (Student Success), Objectives 1-4. The Goal
A team met this week. Rick Fillman provided an outline which
referenced how the objectives address the Accreditation Self Study
Recommendations and also from the Accreditation Self
Executive Summary. Dennis distributed this outline to SSC.

5. Educational Master Plan

The Master Plan was approved at the March Governing Board meeting.
This week’s forum is the last chance for input.
6. Fourth Grade Experience
Melissa Brilino will once again be organizing the S4C event, Friday,
May 17. As of yesterday, 2900 4th graders have signed up. Volunteers
are needed. Dennis will obtain a list of volunteer duties and send to
the Student Services Component so that people have an idea of where
to volunteer.
UCSC will be hosting their first 6th grade experience pilot on May 24.
Department Updates
Sandi
• Emergency loan numbers are down a little from previous
semesters and are being repaid at a faster rate.
• Student injuries remain about the same.
Sesario
• The Cabrillo College Talent Show is tonight at Crocker Theater.
• Sesario has been attending early identification/intervention
workshops.
• The Student Support Conference Team is available and willing to
go speak to staff and classes regarding safety/student success.
• This semester there have been 16 discipline referrals and three
hearings.
Laura
• Laura’s been busy learning!
Lyn
•

Lyn has been providing more resume assistance for students.
Two Student Employment surveys are in the works: one Survey
Monkey online and an in-person one that is being used as a
recruitment tool as well as a survey.
Alicia
• FTTW office will be closed for spring break.
• All work/study funding has been used; more is being requested.

Ed plans are being counted to get the number of students served
for the SLO assessment.
WIA students are being recruited even though the amount of
funding is unsure.
Beth
• Between DSPS and LSP there have been 650 accommodations to
date.
• Beth is seeing a higher number of psych students.
• The SSCT committee has been wonderful helping the psych
students, as have been the faculty involved with these students.
David
• David reported the March in March had smaller attendance this
year.
• EOPS has been reviewing progress reports for students and
giving AB540 students referrals to the BOG.
• EOPS will be hiring to replace their staff position.
• EOPS Region 4 conference will be at UCSC on April 20.
Katie

SHS now has 3.5 full exam rooms.
SHS is piloting an MA externship.
FamPact numbers are going up.
Mental Health First Aid Training – first workshop completed; next
workshops April 26 and May 10. Space is still available. Another
training will be offered Flex Week.
Tootie
• FAO is getting ready for the 2013-14 FAFSA.
• Second disbursement will go out next week.
• Tootie attended the Region 4 meeting last week.
Tama
• The Enrollment Services elements are being phased into A&R.
The A&R Coordinator position is now the Enrollment Services
Coordinator. When pertinent, vacant A&R positions will become
ES positions.
• Leah Hlavaty took a position in the Library, so her vacant
position will be posted.
• Tama attended a Chief Information Officers meeting regarding
Ellucian and how the offices of IT and Student Services can work
together on Student Success.

Masina
• A&R is down three staff; Cecilia will be returning to A&R in April
and will be assigned transcripts.
• The 320 report is due April 30.
• Masina will attend the AACRAO conference in April as Region 3 &
4 rep.
Rachel
• The Watsonville Center will be closed during spring break.
• Adult Ed may continue in Building B.
• Accreditation forum will be this Thursday 2:30-4:30; this will be
the final chance for comments on the report.
Dennis
• Dennis attended the CSSO conference in Costa Mesa which
focused on Student Success. This fall, a statewide database will
be implemented to hold community college assessment test
scores.
• A $100,000 donation for Foster Youth has been received by the
Foundation from the anonymous donor who has contributed in
the past.
