9:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Present: Dennis Bailey-Fougnier, Sandi Moore, Laura Verduzco-Thurman, Barbara Rigg,
Lyn Hood, Rachel Mayo, Margery Regalado Rodriguez, Karen Reyes, Sesario Escoto,
Beth McKinnon, David Trevino, Katie Dowling
1. Student Equity Plan
Dennis is organizing a task force to write an updated Student Equity Plan which is
due in October. The Student Success Plan is also due in October. Dennis has a
“crosswalk” grid which shows alignment between the two plans. Indicators for
funding are tied to the plan and when Dennis gets the parameters, the writing will
begin.
2. AP 5210 Communicable Diseases – Students
Katie provided a draft AP. After discussion, an additional paragraph was added
regarding control information and procedures. The AP was approved.
3. Catalog Edits – Policy Updates and Summer/Fall Schedule of Classes
• Please carefully review the last catalog and rewrite any areas where
changes have occurred due to new policies, name changes, etc. Submit new
copy (Word doc) to Dale Attias.
• The summer and fall schedule of classes will be merged. Please review your
sections in the wraparound and make sure they fit both summer and fall.
Changes are due to Dale by 2/25/14.
• Also, the office hours page was discussed and it was agreed that there
should be links to each department page instead of listing all the office
hours individually. The links could be live on the online PDF.
4. Spring 2014 Program Plans and Annual Updates/SLO Assessments
Dennis gave his monthly reminder to have all annual updates completed no later
than the June SSC meeting. The two program plans due by June are Student
Success & Support Program and DSPS.
5. Shared Workshops
SARS codes have been updated and are linked to activities which may be counted
for Student Success Act payments. Workshops are a paid activity. MIS will pull the
SARS’ data. Margery’s plan is to share common workshops that are regularly done
among the departments so there isn’t replication and more students can be
included. She asked for topic ideas.
6. Announcements
• Retirements
o Sesario (last day July 31, 2014)
o Lyn (last day December 30, 2014)
o Martha Orr (last day end of spring 2014 semester)
7. Program/Department Updates
Sesario
• Discipline hearings are scheduled for the next five weeks.
• Student Senate talent show, March 12, 2014.
• Lucinda Roy, suggested speaker for All College Day.
Katie
• Posters for the Wellness Challenge workshops were handed out and
the schedule is on the website – workshops are open to everyone.
• Mental Health First Aid workshops were well attended, especially the
student session.
• Peers program continues – they have an office in the VIC and plan to
add a space in Watsonville.
• Katie and Dianne are out at a conference next week; interns and nurse
practitioners will be subbing in SHS.
Rachel
• As an educational center, the Watsonville Center has been bringing in
$1 million annually to the college. This is based on 1000 FTES. Since
FTES have dropped, the college may lose the $1 million if FTES
numbers are not increased. To help increase the FTES, the center is
offering more online classes and the Summer Migrant Program will
hold classes in Watsonville this year. Rachel is hoping for an extension
since they only recently became aware of the FTES minimum.
• "Black Mexico: The Forgotten Root" events will happen this week.
Dennis will send out an “all” email announcement.
Margery
• Running Start has received 500 intent forms.
• Post-assessment (next steps) discussions are taking place.
• Ed Plan workshops taught by staff have been very successful in
preparing
students
for
their
counseling
appointment;
probation/disqualification workshops have been successful, too.
2
David
• EOPS followed up outreach with phone calls and 66 students attended
the orientation.
• EOPS cap is 197 and they are over cap at 230.
• David encouraged everyone to attend the March in March (on March 3
in Sacramento).
Lyn
•
•
180 off-campus jobs (ranging from computers to childcare).
28 on-campus jobs (department funded).
Beth
• DSPS is changing the program name – possibly Accessible Education
Support Systems (AESS) or ACCESS – the new name will be
announced soon; the state is also changing the program name but the
names do not need to match.
• Confidentiality of ed plans and electronic signatures have been a “hot
topic” – one concern being that a student’s disability needs to be
locked from view by others.
• DPSS numbers are up – this could be due to the new location as well
as outreach efforts.
• Repeatability issues are still a concern.
Karen
• A FTTW barbecue was held before the semester began on book
voucher day which increased the number of early students (versus
those arriving on the first day of school).
• Karen will attend and present at the CalWorks conference in April.
• Students are being informed about the BOG changes for 2016.
Dennis
• Dennis will be away at an accreditation visit March 3-6.
• March 12-13 he’ll be co-chairing the CSSO/CIO joint conference.
