Student Equity is about bridging the achievement gap. Subgroups have formed to add detail to the draft Student Equity Plan and budget written by Dennis. The next meeting will be a “world café” format where everyone will give feedback to each subgroup. Margery handed out bullet points regarding SSSP four core services (Orientation, Assessment, Counseling, Follow-up for At-Risk Students) and the budget allocated for these four services. The $1,537,657 may only be used for the four core services. Program plans due in fall 2015: Enrollment Services and FTTW Annual update cycle change: all updates now due Fall 2014 – okay to change date on spring 2014 update if there are no changes, or submit a new update for fall 2014. Program Updates All • Karen: Halftime job developer position funded by county grant has been posted; vacant halftime temp position is being evaluated; recruiting for WIA program; WFSN grant implementation plan due in November; lobby has been turned into a study area. • Beth: Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) population is “exploding” with an increase from six registered students in 2012 to 63 in 2014; Flex activity in spring to help faculty support ASC students; per Department of Justice, we need to be aware of “institutional indifference” and “deliberate indifference”; 1 • • • • • • • • • • the college population is 11% ASC. Rachel: Limited on-site parking at Watsonville Center so allowing student workers to park in staff lots at night for safety. Lyn: After first student payroll, auditing students who don’t have completed paperwork. Anya: Assessment numbers are up 35% from last year; Running Start calendar is finished – all schools are booked; already assessing for spring; new chemistry assessment in spring. Sandi: Student emergency loan applications are about half what they used to be due to earlier financial aid awards. Veronica: EOPS has been meeting with students (the first of three required contacts per semester); hopeful that funding will be fully restored next year; CARE providing positive discipline workshops – open to anyone – pre-register at EOPS. Laura: There have been 33 conduct cases so far this semester including repeats; sheriff can remove students (without suspension) from campus with PC626 form; borrow a book program available for cyber session. Jay: Counseling appointments booked out for two weeks; TAG period; CSU applications now, UC applications in November; student planning is now integrated as part of the regular day; adjunct counselors require training; will be short staffed in spring due to retirements. Tootie: Financial Aid is more caught up than ever before; second disbursement is October 30. Ed: Laurel is visiting Enrollment Services on Monday; working on concurrent enrollment procedures; trying to go paperless with veterans documentation; priority registration – taking a snapshot to make sure students have correct priority; Ed will provide priority registration talking points to SSC. Katie: SHS is not super impacted at the moment, so refer students; classroom outreach; PEERS outreach; new PEERS club; Mental Health First Aid workshops; smoking cessation support workshops; November 20 “Great American Smokeout” event; Medi-Cal provides free nicotine patches.
