Partnership for the Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) is an alignment exercise with K12 and higher education to work on an assessment to determine if high school students have what they need to move up. State Supt. Barresi is on the board and advocates for it. Higher ed’s role will be to help determine the assessment and acceptable interventions. B. NCTQ Report – US News & World Report is working with NCTQ to evaluate the quality of teacher preparation programs by assigning each a grade. A survey with a quick turnaround time has been distributed to the universities. If a university does not participate, it will still be evaluated based on public information and will likely fail. The rankings will be based on syllabi and other key items—looking more at inputs than outputs. C. Foreign language proficiency – Please be reminded of the policy for students to demonstrate state-mandated proficiency. For most programs, these hours are not included in the checksheet. D. Standards Committees exist for each NCATE standard. Please join. E. OCTP 2010 Annual Report includes passing rate by test and disaggregated by program completers. Data is also aggregated by teacher preparation program but only includes students who have been “claimed.” Cameron didn’t claim many students’ OGETs or OSATs. Although we set claiming criteria, most students take the test earlier. Last month’s meeting minutes were approved. Other Business Old Business 1. Approved minutes from the November 17 meeting are posted at http://www.cameron.edu/teacher_ed New Business 1. Altering the criteria for “claiming” candidates for certification tests We need to decide if the criteria we have in place for claiming students needs to be changed since we are not claiming a majority of students, many of whom pass the test. We will need more than one year’s worth of data to know if the changed criteria is working or not. Vivian Thomlinson made a motion to table the topic until the next meeting so that the information can be taken back to the departments. Lynda Robinson seconded the motion, and the motion was approved. Announcements/Discussion Items A. All Program Reports uploaded to SPA September 15, 2012; due as pdf to Director of Teacher Ed June 1, 2012; Must have 2 cycles of data for each assessment; check for applicable standards for your area at http://www.ncate.org/Standards/ProgramStandardsandReportForms/t abid/676/Default.aspx B.
