2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter November 9th to 12th, 2015 N Volume 19, Issue 12 Monday We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We read Clifford Goes to Dog School by Norman Bridwell. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘go’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘It’s Autumn’. Our focus this week is on writing topics and writing audience. We wrote about something we did this weekend. We read We’re Going on a Leaf Hunt and When the Leaf Blew In. We had recess. We practiced writing our numerals from 1-20 for math. Wednesday Tuesday We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We learned that great thinkers persevere. We heard Newsminutes presentations. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We read Clifford’s First Autumn by Norman Bridwell and made a web of all the things we know about autumn. We read Rocket Writes a Story to learn about choosing writing topics and writing for an audience. The AM class had library. The PM class read Roots and It Could Still Be a Tree. We did shared reading and read Who Lives In a Tree? and Trees to Paper. We had recess. We read another riddle in Clifford’s Riddles. We read Fall Is Not Easy and made our own class version of it. Thursday We greeted friends, said the pledge and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We read Clifford Goes to Washington by Norman Bridwell. We heard more Newsminutes presentations. We practiced writing sentences with our popcorn word. We sequenced the lines of our poem. The PM class had library. We read Library Mouse and realized that we can all be authors. We read The Wall and learned about Veteran’s Day. We had recess. We did another Clifford Riddle. We learned about number lines and used them to count, locate numbers and add and subtract by one or two from a given number. We greeted one another, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20 and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We read My First Thanksgiving and graphed what costume we want to make and wear for our feast next Thursday. We made a chart to help us remember what good writers do (capitalization, spacing, punctuation). We read Clifford, the Firehouse Dog by Norman Bridwell. We highlighted our popcorn words in and read ‘We Go’. We did shared reading and read Big A, Little A and began our own individual versions by doing our ‘a’ page. We had recess. We did a nature walk and identified the parts of a deciduous tree and an evergreen tree.
