2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter November 23rd to 24th, 2015 N Volume 19, Issue 14 Monday We started by doing our ‘e’ page of our Big and Little book. We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We subitized numbers to 6 in random placements, read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We learned that great thinkers communicate ideas with confidence and reviewed the other habits of thinkers. We read Clifford’s Family by Norman Bridwell. In small groups, we researched, planned and made charts to share information about each author we’ve studied so far this year (Kevin Henkes, Mo Willems and Norman Bridwell). We read our poem of the week, ‘The Turkey’ and sequenced it line by line. We read Happy Thanksgiving. We had recess. Collaborating with a group, we sequenced cards with the days of the week, the months of the year and numbers 1-20. The morning class had library. Wednesday Tuesday We started by doing a Thanksgiving dot-to-dot. We then greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We reviewed the six habits of thinkers. The PM class had library. The AM class did fitness. We read Clifford’s Thanksgiving Visit by Norman Bridwell. We read, highlighted the popcorn words in and illustrated our poem of the week. We did shared reading and read Thanksgiving Day. We graphed our favorite autumn activity on a floor graph. We had recess. We read another riddle in Clifford’s Riddles. We sequenced Clifford pictures from ‘Littlest to Biggest’. Thursday Happy No School Thanksgiving! After the big day, have your child reflect upon the day using their five senses and record on the appropriate page, what they saw, heard, smelled, tasted and touched (not felt- i.e. happy, but physically touched). Have them start by drawing the picture and then, using a pencil (so they can erase if needed) ‘try their best’ to spell what they drew. Please don’t spell the words for them, let them ‘use their arm’ (ask them what that means) to get down the sounds as best they can. After they finish, if you would like, you can scribe/translate underneath but please don’t spell for them or let them erase and change it to what you wrote.
