Scarlet and Gray Newsletter September 8th to 11th, 2015 \ Volume 19, Issue 3 Tuesday Monday We greeted each other, said the Pledge of Allegiance, our class promise and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by ones. We wrote thank you notes for our field trip. We learned our first popcorn word, ‘a’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘Colors’. We heard our letter ‘c’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We did shared reading and read Pete the Cat and I Love My White Shoes. We learned about resources in the classroom to help us. We read Mouse Paint and mixed primary colors to make new colors in science. We had recess. We did a number sense activity for math. Labor Day Wednesday We greeted friends, said The Pledge of Allegiance, our class pledge and did calendar. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. We learned how illustrations can help us tell a story as we ‘read’ a wordless picture book, Wave. We also learned that we read and write from left to right and top to bottom. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We did shared reading. We heard our ‘o’ presentation, felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat and practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We made our one ‘o’ books. We read Brown Bear, Brown Bear and watercolored our own brown bear. We had recess. We read Wax to Crayons. We showed the numbers 1-5 by putting the correct number of stickers under each number. Thursday We greeted one another, said The Pledge of Allegiance, our class promise and did calendar. We th learned about place value with our 10 day of school. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We learned about titles and previewing books as we read Bow Wow Bugs a Bug, We read, highlighted popcorn words in and illustrated our poem. We heard our ‘a’ presentation felt how it sounds in our mouth and throat. We made our ‘a’ books. We practiced writing it in the air, on our hand, on the carpet and on our white boards. We did shared reading and read Blueberries for Sal. We chose an animal and a color to paint for our class version of Brown Bear, Brown Bear. We had recess. We read Ten in the Bed and Ten Black Dots in honor of our tenth day of kindergarten. We did rainbow writing of the numerals 1-5. Friday We greeted each another, said The Pledge of Allegiance and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from a mystery number. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We read What Grandma’s/Grandpa’s Do Best and made Grandparent’s Day cards. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read A Park. We did shared reading and read Mary Wore Her Red Dress and made a class version of it. We read Mouse Count and showed 0-6 in our counting books. October 21st is kindergarten only so if you have another child in the building you may want to choose one of the other dates. We are cutting almost daily for the next two months. If I notice children having difficulty with scissors I have/will send home some extra cutting practice to help them ‘sharpen’ their skills.
