2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter January 11th to 14th, 2016 Volume 19, Issue 19 N Monday We did our ’u’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ book. We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We subitized numbers to 10 on our touchscreen, read our popcorn words and did our ABC charts’. We reviewed habits of thinkers. We learned that all words have vowels, that vowels make more than one sound and a song to remember which letters are vowels. We did literacy workshop. We learned our new popcorn word ‘is’ and did rainbow writing of it. We were introduced to our poem of the week ‘Snow on the Green Grass’. We read How Full is Your Bucket? We graphed whether we went to the library for our country presentation. We had our first presentations and recorded those countries in our passports. We discovered our mystery number. We did a math activity recording a number in three different ways (an array, in a ten frame and writing the numeral). The AM class had ‘Family Monday”. Wednesday Tuesday We did our ‘v’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ book. We then greeted our friends. We said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We did our ABC charts with digraphs (ch, sh, th). We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We learned about short vowels. We read Jennie’s Hat by Ezra Jack Keats. We did literacy workshop. We heard more country presentations and recorded those countries in our passports. The AM class did four stations and the PM class did three. We read The Story of Ruby Bridges. We figured out our mystery number. We played a math game called Racing Bears. We did the ‘w’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ Book. We then greeted one another, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words. We reviewed the six habits of thinkers. We did ‘Action Alphabet’. We learned that long vowels say their name in words. We read A Letter to Amy by Ezra Jack Keats. The morning class had library. The afternoon class did literacy workshop. We sequenced the lines of our poem. We heard more country presentations and recorded those countries in our passports. We read A Picture Book of Martin Luther King, Jr. and Martin’s Big Words. We did shared reading. We found our mystery number and did a counting and writing activity in math. Thursday We did our ‘x’ page of our ‘Big a nd Little’ book. We then greeted classmates. We said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read What Is It? We practiced a safety (lock down) drill. We read Goggles! by Ezra Jack Keats. We reviewed short and long vowels and saw a few examples of ‘y’ being a vowel. We read, highlighted the popcorn word in and illustrated our poem. The AM class read I Am R osa Parks. The PM class had library. We heard more country presentations and recorded those countries in our passport. We found our mystery number.
