2 1 Scarlet and Gray Newsletter November 16th to 20th, 2015 N Volume 19, Issue 13 Monday We started by doing our ‘b’ page of our’ Big and Little’ book. We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared her poster and we wrote a sentence about her using shared writing. We learned that great thinkers think flexibly and reviewed the other habits of thinkers. We read Clifford’s Busy Week by Norman Bridwell. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘he’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘It’s Apples’. We read Celebrating Thanksgiving. We did shared reading and read Fruits. We had recess. We read The Seasons of Arnold’s Apple Tree and made an interactive apple tree in all four seasons. We graphed if we’d ever picked an apple. We watched Clifford’s Fun with Letters. Wednesday We did the ‘d’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ book, greeted friends, said the pledge and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week brought something for us to estimate and we wrote a sentence about her using shared writing. We read Clifford’s Pals by Norman Bridwell. We sequenced the lines of our poem. The AM class had library. The PM class did a handwriting assessment to check pencil grips, letter formation, etc. We read Feeling Thankful and did a Time for Kids – Music Makers. We had recess. We did another Clifford Riddle. We made our costumes for our feast. Tuesday We started with our ‘c’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ book. Then greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We counted to 100 by ones and read our popcorn words. The AM class had library. The PM class did a handwriting assessment to check pencil grips, letter formation, etc. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared a science image and we wrote a sentence about her using shared writing. We read Clifford’s Best Friend by Norman Bridwell. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We illustrated apple trees in each season and labeled them. We did shared reading and Pete the Cat – The First Thanksgiving. We had recess. We read another riddle in Clifford’s Riddles. We did our November Writing Sample. Thursday We greeted one another, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20 and read our popcorn words. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies, we located where it came from on the world map and we wrote our final sentence about her using shared writing. We wrote individual sentences about her as well. We read Clifford’s Good Deeds by Norman Bridwell. We did shared reading and read Over the River and Through the Woods. We played ‘Roll a Turkey’ in math. We had recess. We watched the third grade musical. Friday We highlighted popcorn words in and illustrated our poem of the week. We greeted classmates and said the pledge and our class promise. We had Family Friday. We read Clifford Grows Up and Who Will Carve the Turkey this Thanksgiving? We watched Charlie Brown Thanksgiving and then had our feast. Thanks to all of our feast volunteers!!
