Scarlet and Gray Newsletter November 2nd to 6th, 2015 N Volume 19, Issue 11 Monday We greeted classmates, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We sang our ‘Days of the Week’ song and ‘Macarena Months’. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week shared his/her poster and we wrote a sentence about him/her using shared writing. We learned our new popcorn word, ‘me’ and did rainbow writing of it. We read our poem of the week, ‘ABC Game’. We graphed which book or series by Mo Willems was our favorite. We read The Witch Grows Up by our November author, Norman Bridwell. Our focus this week is on beginning sounds and we practiced that on our ‘H is for Halloween’ activity where we identified the two out of three words that began with the same sound. We read a Leaves and Little Boo! We had recess. We read the first riddle in Clifford’s Riddles. We identified and wrote the shape words for our pattern block shapes (square, triangle, diamond, trapezoid, rhombus and hexagon). We read The Shape of Things. Wednesday We greeted friends, said the pledge and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted to 100 by 5’s and 10’s. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. Our kindergartner of the week brought a science image and something for us to estimate and we wrote two sentences about him/her using shared writing. We read A Tiny Family by Mo Norman Bridwell. We did a beginning sounds activity/song. We did speedwriting of our popcorn word. We graphed whether we had fun on the field trip and then began a booklet about things we saw there. The AM class had library. We tried to hear and record sounds in a dictation sentence in the cafeteria. We did shared reading and read Look at This Tree, Evergreens Are Green and From Acorn to Oak Tree, three short non-fiction books about trees. We had recess. We chose a shape to create a picture around for our class version of The Shape of Things. Tuesday We greeted each other, said the pledge and went to the pumpkin patch. Thanks to all of our parent chaperones! It was a beautiful day!! Thursday We greeted one another, said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We subitized ten frames to 5 and counted backwards from 20. We did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We wrote the beginning sounds for the illustrations of items we saw at the pumpkin patch. We also did an activity where we identified words that began with the same sound. Our kindergartner of the week shared something for social studies and we wrote our final sentence about him/her using shared writing. We each wrote our own sentence about him/her. We read Clifford, the Big Red Dog by Norman Bridwell. We did shared reading. We had recess. The PM class had library. The AM class read Roots and It Could Still Be a Tree. Friday We greeted each another, said the pledge and our class pledge and did calendar. We counted on from a mystery numbers. We read our popcorn words, did our ABC chart and ‘Action Alphabet’. We had Family Friday. We highlighted our new popcorn word in, read and did fitness to Look At Me. We read Clilfford, the Small Red Puppy by Norman Bridwell. We did shared reading and read Leaf Man. We had fitness and recess. We cut and sorted treats by comparing amounts.
