Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day
Wednesday
We did our ‘y’ page of our ‘Big and Little’ book. We then
greeted our friends. We said the pledge and our class
promise and did calendar. We did our ABC charts and sang
our vowel song. We counted to 100 by ones and read our
popcorn words. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We
learned our new popcorn word ‘in’ and did rainbow writing
of it. We learned that good readers and writers ask
themselves: does it look right?, does it sound right? and
does it make sense?. We read Apt. 3 by Ezra Jack Keats. Our
clothes pin graph was ‘did you talk with anyone about Dr.
Martin Luther King, Jr. this weekend?” We were introduced
to our poem of the week ‘Five Little Snowmen’. We heard
more country presentations and recorded those countries in
our passports. We read Our Children Can Soar and A Picture
Book of Jesse Owens. We figured out our mystery number.
We played a math game called Roll and Fill and then used a
spinner to determine whether the person with more or less
was the winner.
We finished our ‘Big and Little’ Book with the ‘z’ page.
We then greeted one another, said the pledge and
our class promise and did calendar. We counted to
100 by fives and tens and read our popcorn words.
We reviewed the six habits of thinkers. We did ‘Action
Alphabet’. We did speedwriting of our popcorn
word. We learned about the tools we have in our
brain to help us read and write. We read Pet Show!
by Ezra Jack Keats. We sequenced the lines of our
poem. We heard more country presentations and
recorded those countries in our passports. We read
Amazing Grace. We found our mystery number and
played ‘More, Less or Equal?’
Thursday
Our math starter was to compare and identify the group with more. We then greeted classmates. We said the pledge and our class promise and did calendar. We counted backwards from 20, subitized ten frames and read our popcorn words. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We read Louie by Ezra Jack Keats. We reviewed what good readers and writers do. We read, highlighted the popcorn word in and illustrated our poem. The AM class had library and more country presentations and recorded those countries in our passports. The PM class did three literacy workshop stations. We read Dancing in the Wings. We found our mystery number, compared more or less on ten frames and played a math card game called Compare. Friday
We attended a COSI on Wheels Assembly and a hands-‐on session where we visited various chemistry stations including ‘making slime’. We greeted classmates. We said the pledge and our class promise. We reviewed the habits of thinkers. We highlighted the popcorn words in and read In. The AM class heard our final country presentation and recorded that country in our passports. We read Bein’ With You This Way. We read The Trip by Ezra Jack Keats and ‘met’ him through a video interview. We found our mystery number. We did fitness. Contact Info:

Dear Parents,
Valentines will be exchanged on February 12th. This is very lowkey, no party but we will decorate bags to collect valentines at
school (no boxes or bags need to be prepared at home). Students
can sign valentines at home (23 should be plenty) but please don’t
write names on the envelopes. We line up the bags and drop them
in one at a time. If there are names on envelopes it really slows
down the process.
If you have any empty tissue boxes or Pringles-type cans, we
could use them for an upcoming project. We still need a couple
more tissue boxes and lots more of the cans with lids.
If you are interested in the latest information on redistricting for
the 2016-17 school year, it is available at this site:
