Minutes for Meeting of May 5, 2014
A meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, May 5 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 202. Committee members
present were: Gretchen Adams, Jim Barrick, Scott Baugh, Nelson Dometrius, Brett Houk, Matt Olson,
Travis Roach, and David Roach. Presenters: Dr. Kimball (Communication Studies), Drs. Taraban,
Reich, and Alquist (Psychology), Dr. Paine (Forensic Sciences), and Dr. Barkdull (Political Science).
1. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend the following proposals from
Communication Studies:
 Change course number for COMS 2301 Communication Theory.
 Change course number for COMS 2302 Communication Research.
2. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal
from the Department of Psychology:
 Change title and description for PSY 3318 Children’s Thinking & Emotion.
3. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration
the following proposals from the Department of Psychology:
 Add PSY 5320 Social Psychology Research Methods.
 Add PSY 5327 Social Psychology and Emotion.
4. Pending revisions, the committee voted to recommend the following proposal from Forensic
Sciences:
 Change title and description for FSCI 5331 Advanced Topics in Forensic Science.
5. The following proposals from the Department of Political Science were tabled by the department
chair:
 Add PUAD 5322 Planning and Management of Weather and Climate Risks.
 Add PUAD 5323 The Science and Policy of Climate Change.
 Add PUAD 5325 Analysis and Application of Climate Data.
6. Pending revisions, the committee voted to recommend the following proposal from the
Department of Political Science
 Add GLST 3300 Selected Topics.
7. The committee recognized the following information items from the Department of Health,
Exercise, and Sport Sciences:
 A change in the Athletic Coaching minor requirements.
 Add a new minor in Sport Management.
This was the last regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP for the Spring 2014 semester. ASCAP meetings
will begin again in September 2014. The schedule for Fall 2014 and Spring 2015 meetings will be
distributed to A&S department chairs in August.
