Minutes for Meeting of March 10, 2014
A meeting of ASCAP was held on Monday, March 10 at 3:00 p.m. in Holden Hall 202. Committee
members present were: Gretchen Adams, Jim Barrick, Scott Baugh, Nelson Dometrius, Brett Houk, Matt
Olson, Travis Roach, and David Roach. Presenters: Dr. Gollahon (Biology), Dr. Koch (Sociology,
Anthropology, and Social Work), Drs. Collopy and Pascual y Cabo (Classical & Modern Languages &
Literatures), and Drs. McBee and Johnson (History).
1. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal
from Biology:
 Add BIOL 2202 Interdisciplinary Science Issues.
2. The committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the following proposal
from the Department of Sociology, Anthropology, and Social Work:
 Add SOC 5383 Substance Use and Abuse.
3. Pending minor revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration
the following proposal from the Department of Political Science:
 Add PUAD 5364 Comparative Effectiveness and Quality Improvement of Healthcare
Systems.
4. The committee voted to table the following proposal from the Department of Classical & Modern
Languages & Literatures pending further information:
 Add SPAN 1101 Practical Survival Spanish.
5. Pending revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the
following proposals from the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures:
 Add SPAN 3315 Intermediate Spanish Conversation for Bilingual Students.
 Add SPAN 5382 Spanish in the U.S.
6. The following proposal from the Department of Classical & Modern Languages & Literatures
was withdrawn by the Department Chair at the meeting:
 Add SPAN 5383 Multimedia and Spanish in 2nd Language Acquisition.
7. Pending revisions, the committee voted to recommend to the next level of consideration the
following proposals from the Department of History:
 Add HIST 3336 Mass Incarcerations in the U.S.
 Add HIST 5321 Studies in Borderlands History.
 Add HIST 5352 Studies in Asian History.
 Add HIST 5370 Readings in Mass Incarceration.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of ASCAP is scheduled for Monday, April 14, 2014 for proposals
that reach the committee and the Dean’s office by Monday, April 7.
