T HE F IRST S UNDAY OF L ENT – F E B R U A R Y 26, 2012 THE READINGS FOR THE SECOND OF SUNDAY OF LENT ARE: GN. 22: 1-2 ROM. 8: 31B-34 MK. 9: 2-20 THE EXAMEN During this Lenten season, there will be an Examination of Consciousness following communion. The “Examen” is at the heart of Ignatian prayer and we hope that this Spiritual Exercise during Lent will enrich your prayer and reflection. The Examen questions for the First Sunday of Lent are listed below. In the tradition of Ignatius we open our hearts and minds to God’s loving guidance through the spirit of Jesus Christ. Together let us reflect on our day with God as our guide and Jesus walking beside us. THE FIRST SUNDAY OF LENT Lord, we realize that everything, even ourselves, is a gift from you. In what ways has God shown you your path? Lord, open our eyes and ears to be more honest with ourselves. How or when have you sought God’s help in the desert? Lord, show us what has been happening to us and in us this day. How has our loving God touched you personally today? Lord, we are still learning to grow in your love. How has God ministered to you in times of temptation? Lord, let us look with longing toward the future. How can you love and serve the Lord and others this Lent? TAIZE EVENING PRAYER This Lenten season, we will celebrate Taize Prayer every other Monday beginning Monday, February 27th and continuing March 12th and March 26th. This candlelit Evening Prayer Liturgy features simple singing, prayer and meditation. Please join us for the First Taize evening this Monday at 7:15 pm in the Upper Church 2012 Lenten / Easter Discussion Group The book that has been chosen to focus our discussions this season is by an author we have read and enjoyed before, Bishop N.T. Wright. It is called: Following Jesus: Biblical Reflections on Discipleship (Grand Rapids, MI: William Erdmans, 1995). It is available through Amazon.com and, perhaps, at religious bookstores. As usual, Frs. Bob and J.A. will host our meetings at the Jesuit residence (130 Beacon Street) from 7:30 PM until 9:00 PM each designated Wednesday evening. We will start on February 29th and meet again on March 14th , 21st, and then April 18th and 25th (after Easter). Please indicate your desire to join us by contacting Betty in the office at ignatius@bc.edu or 617-552-6102) as soon as possible. Based on a true story, the film portrays the lives, and eventual deaths, of a community of Trappist monks living among the Muslims of Algeria. Join us in an opportunity for all of us to step back from our lives and spend some time reflecting on how God is working among us. By our shared reflection on the lives of these monks and the choices they made, we hope to come to a greater understanding of how God is calling each one of us to live this Lenten season. This event will be held in the Choir/Media Room in the Lower Church from 12:00 – 3:30 pm. To register, call the Parish Office at 617-552-6102, or more information, please email Jonathan Stott, SJ at jstottsj@gmail.com.
