CALL FOR PARISHIONERS INTERESTED IN SERVING ON THE PARISH PASTORAL COUNCIL The St. Ignatius Parish Pastoral Council (PPC) seeks new members for a 3 year term beginning September, 2012. The PPC is an advisory body to the pastor and has as its primary focus assisting the pastor in planning for the future of the parish. Updating and monitoring the implementation of the Parish Pastoral Plan is one of the major functions of the Council, in addition to specific planning initiatives. The PPC aims to be broadly representative of the parish in its composition. We especially invite young adults (ages 2240) to consider serving on the council. ROSES FOR LIFE The rose has long been a symbol of life and love. Once again, on Mother’s Day weekend, May 12/13th , the Massachusetts Citizens for Life, through members of our parish Respect Life Committee, will distribute silk roses at church entrances. All proceeds benefit pro-life work. 1. Our featured speaker will be Joseph Marina, S.J., a Jesuit scholastic studying at Boston College who will be ordained to the priesthood on June 9. Joe will be talking with us about the “New Atheism” trumpeted by such figures as Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, and the late Christopher Hitchens. Joe will help us understand the arguments of these thinkers and invite us to reflect on them in light of our faith. As always, the event will be held at The Green Briar Pub in Brighton. TACNA, PERÚ - July 23rd – August 5th Eight of our young parishioners will be traveling with two St. Ignatius Staff members to Tacna, a city in southern Perú, to live and work with the residents of the Habitat, a section of the city founded by Jesuits. We will be working with youth and adult members of the Habitat community to improve private and public spaces in the neighborhood. CAMDEN, NEW JERSEY - August 13th – 18th , August 20th -25th Twenty-five students over the course of two different weeks will be traveling to the Romero Center, a social justice retreat house in Camden, NJ. While there, they will live simply in community with peers from other church groups, spending the days interacting with residents of Camden and the evenings reflecting on their experiences. CONFIRMATION Our Confirmation program begins in the 9th grade. Students are confirmed in the Spring of the 10th grade. Young adults who have been catechized but are not yet confirmed should contact the Parish Office for an alternative program. MATRIMONY Must be registered as a parishioner six months prior to beginning Marriage arrangements.
