Jesuit Refugee Service Presentation
November 4, 2012 – Lower Church - Media Room-11:10am-noon
Please join Laura Gaspo, Outreach Coordinator at Jesuit Refugee Service/USA, in a presentation on the
Jesuit Refugee Service. This will include discussion of Ignatian Spirituality and ways in which to follow
Saint Ignatius of Loyola’s call to serve others. Learn how JRS/USA seeks to accompany, serve, and
defend the most vulnerable in our society, refugees and other forcibly displaced persons. Discover ways
to connect your own Ignatian spirituality with direct service and advocacy for refugees in your
community and around the world. A graduate of Fordham University and current Jesuit Volunteer at
JRS/USA, Laura can attest to St. Ignatius’ call to serve and how to practice this in our daily lives.
JAMAICA RETURN!
Once again, the parish is planning an immersion trip to Kingston, Jamaica to participate in the life of our

January 19th -27th.
If you are interested in finding out more about the trip, please contact Fr. Bob at

BOOK DISCUSSION
On November 18th, there will be a discussion of Guadalupe: Mother of the New Creation by Virgil
Elizondo. For centuries, Guadalupe has served as one of the sustaining symbols of Mexican, Latin
American, and U.S. Hispanic identity and spirituality. But more than that, in this lyrical and inspiring
work Elizondo shows that Our Lady of Guadalupe has an even wider significance and relevance to the
church universal at the dawn of a new millennium. Please join us for a discussion of this book on
November 18 at 11:15 in the living room of the Parish Center.

OUTREACH MINISTRIES
THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY
IN OUR WINTER CLOTHING DRIVE!
HEARTH is a local non-profit organization
dedicated to the elimination of homelessness
among the elderly. Its mission is accomplished
through a unique blend of prevention, placement,
and housing programs, all designed to help elders find and succeed in homes of
their own. All housing operated by Hearth provides a creative array of supportive
services that assist residents to age with dignity, regardless of their special
medical, mental health, or social needs.
We’ll begin our outreach to residents of the Hearth community at its newest home,
Hearth at Olmsted Green, by providing supper on Saturday night, December
15th. Individuals and families are invited to minister to the fifty-nine Hearth
residents that evening. The menu is to be decided upon, so any suggestions are
welcomed!
If you have any questions about Hearth and/or would like to make a commitment to
be a part of that supper, call Sr. Diane, 617-552-6107 and/or go to www.hearthhome.org for information about the agency and its work.

PRAYER LINE PETITIONS
If you or someone you know is in need of prayers, you may call or email your petition to Maria Sullivan,
617-527-9136 or mariasullivan47@gmail.com. Please leave a message with the name of the person for
whom prayers are requested. If you would like to join in prayer, you may also contact Maria. We will
not meet as a group; rather, Maria will send out weekly emails with the names of those requesting
prayers and each member will pray individually.
The Prayer Line now has a Facebook page! Saint-Ignatius-of-Loyola-Chestnut-Hill-Parish-Pray-for-Us.
Simply "like" the page to join us in prayer or to request a prayer. If you don't have access to Facebook
but would like your prayer to be posted, please indicate this to Maria in your phone or e-mail message.
The page is intended to compliment the already existing Prayer Line by creating another forum in which
to participate in or request prayers. Those who already are in the Prayer Line via e-mail will continue to
receive e-mails from Maria.
