HUMAN ANATOMY SYLLABUS Instructor: Mrs. Hervol Phone: 257-6510 ex. 1132 E-mail: shervol@charlescity.org My Website: http://mrshervol.weebly.com/ Course Description Human Anatomy is a course designed to give students understanding and awareness of the human body. The students will be learning the anatomy of the bones, muscles, types of tissues, and organ systems. Not only will the students be introduced to the common names but we will also go through the scientific names. We will use a variety of techniques and labs to gain understandings of these areas. This course is designed for the students who are planning on pursuing any medically related field. Assessment Strategies A variety of instructional and assessment strategies will be used. Instructional structures include individual, small and large groups as well as labs and research. Students will also have outside class assignments that include viewing videos and reading. Assessment strategies include the following: Quizzes- These will serve as minor assessments and will be fill-in-the-blank, short answer or essay. Tests & Projects- These will serve as major assessments and will vary in format. You should make sure and continually review the criteria that will always be provided for projects. Labs- Lab work is graded on effort and the ability to follow directions. Failure to follow directions may exclude you from participating in all future lab activities. This includes clean up. Homework- You will have time to begin homework in class and many students have it completed before leaving the classroom. Bookmark this website: http://mrshervol.weebly.com/ This will be a vital tool for class. Employability Points: Participation is a vital part of this class. If you are not here, it is impossible for you to participate in a classroom situation which includes discussion, listening, and evaluation. These things cannot be made up at a later date. Therefore it is important to keep absences to a minimum. You will earn 10 pts. Weekly for: 1. Being on time 2. Being prepared (coming to class with the tools needed for the day) 3. Being an active, respectful participant in class. 4. Staying on task You will automatically lose 5 pts. each day you are absent or do not meet the classroom objectives. This is true for excused or unexcused absences. If you are absent for any reason, you will not receive these points unless you come in and meet with me BEFORE OR AFTER school OR COMET TIME. Students who are in class for only part of the period will lose points comparable to the amount of the period they were absent. Unexcused absences received no credit for any work completed that day in class. Tardy Policy: You will be allowed 1 tardy for the trimester. If you are tardy, you will lose 3 participation points. After the 1st tardy, you will be required to serve 15-minute detention to be served that day after school or the next morning. If it is not served, time will be doubled. Assignment Policy: Assignments should be turned in when requested. The due dates are always given. Credit for the work will be given as below: ON TIME: 100% of earned points 1 DAY LATE: 20% off of earned point 2nd DAY LATE: 40% off of earned points rd 3 DAY OR LATER: 50% off of earned points Overall Grading: Academic Grade: 90% Effort Grade: 10% Grading Scale 94-100 A 90-93 A87-89 B+ 83-86 B 80-82 B77-79 C+ Breakdown of Academic Grade Homework 45% Test/Quiz 45% Trimester Test 10% 73-76 C 70-72 C67-69 D+ 63-66 D 60-62 D59-Below F Textbooks/Resources/Class Materials There is a textbook for this class, however, it will be used as an in class resource.
